Search Engine Optimisation
Search Engine OptimisationWhat can Search Engine Optimisation do for your online business?
Online marketing and advertising can be very confusing for a lot of business owners like you who are just trying to figure out all of the options available to promote your business online. I’m not going to paint a nice rosey picture, because there’s no point, it’s not a simple case of doing one or two things to make your website popular.
Google can’t send customers to your website if they can’t figure out what your website is about – and that I guess is the first thing you really need to be aware of when you’re creating your website.

- No automated spammy techniques to build quick links or get ranked quickly with Google
- NO confusing technical babble, just easy to understand English
- You will always get good, solid SEO advice and the latest updates
- Your website visibility WILL improve
- Your online enquiries WILL increase
- Your website WILL create business results that last
I’ve often been asked by people, “So how does Google and other search engines like Yahoo and Bing, know which website to show when someone does a search for a particular product or service?”. A great question! I’ve thought about this and here is my interpretation of it without all the ‘geek speak’ and ‘techno babble’ jargon.
Okay – think of the internet as one huge library with billions of books and trillions of pages within those books. The books are websites and the pages within the books are your web pages. You following this?…that’s good. Stay with me and it’ll all make sense soon!
Here we have this huge ‘digital’ library and plenty of people all over the planet looking for books to read. How do they find your book (website)? Just like any good library, it’s only as good as the librarian and the system they have for organising the books in the right section of the library, so they are easy to find.
Think of Google as the librarian, the internet as the library. A library can’t exist without authors who write the books (the websites) and on the other side of the equation there are people who are looking for information contained in the books (website pages).
What you have to do as an author of a website is write really good content to allow the librarian (Google) to be able to understand what your website is about; and then be able to index it (record the information and store it ready to retrieve it when someone asks for it); in the correct section of the library, in the right category, on the right shelf…so to speak.
So when you create your website, the first thing you need to focus on is writing the correct words and phrases.

It’s not an easy task as you can imagine, owing to the billions of websites out there. First you must focus on SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, which is the process of creating the right collection of keywords and phrases, to help search engines find and rate your website against the other websites competing in your niche or market.
There are around 200+ factors that Google uses to determine the quality and relevance of your website, using an algorithm specifically designed to perform this task. This is a closely guarded secret and often changes month to month. That’s why you can never build a website and just forget about it because your website will disappear into the Google wastelands.
Your website has to be fresh, with new and interesting content search engines like to index. If you don’t update your website using a blog, or don’t Tweet, or link Facebook to your website…plus a whole swag of other things, then you’re sort of not going to show up anywhere on the web….FACT!
SEO isn’t something you do once and forget about, you must keep doing it and keep looking for new ways to improve what you’ve already achieved, and do some more. Just as in any form of marketing the rules change, the goalposts are moved and you have to be ready to adapt quickly.
The sooner you get that into your head the better. Don’t expect to have a website built and then go to the number one spot on Google…it’s just not going to happen overnight …FACT! However, if you take a longer term approach and apply the information you’ll learn on this website, then you’ll be ready to compete for good page 1 listings and position your website as a leading authority in your field of expertise.
Search Engine Optimisation takes time and an awful lot of research, tweaking, testing, reporting and updating. Then you have to ”wash – rinse – repeat”. Keep tweaking until your website appears on page one of the search results pages (SERPS) for your chosen keywords. SEO is definitely not rocket science, you can do all of this yourself…it just takes time and you HAVE to be interested in this stuff!
Onlinemarketizing specialises in SEO. Understanding the systematic process it takes to achieve brilliant SEO results takes time, skill and experience. I know how to do this, my results prove it. My priorities are to design you a great looking website that is highly SEO ready and finely tuned to allow your online business every opportunity to dominate the search results page. Some designers and web developers (not all of them) can be more concerned with how nice their code looks rather than focusing on SEO, which can often be a last minute thing.
Being on page 1 of the search pages feels good, it means your chances of clicks to your website have been increased by 80+%, so it pays to focus on SEO is you want results.
